Q: What is Club Volleyball?
A: Club volleyball provides a highly competitive level of play for girls who are interested in improving their skills and gaining the experience necessary to play in high school and beyond. Teams are divided by age and skill level after a tryout is held for the individual club. A typical club season will last from November to May, depending on the competition schedule for the team.
Q: What programs do Sting Volleyball Club offer?
A: All-skills camps, middle/high school prep camp, and all USAV levels for seasonal teams.
Please refer to our PROGRAMS tab for detailed information & to register.
Q: How long is the club volleyball season?
A: Open Houses & tryouts for teams begin in October. Teams are then formed & the season runs until May, depending on the competition schedule for the team.
Q: How do I know which age group my daughter should tryout for?
A: Arizona Region of USA Volleyball (USAV) determines age groups based on a player's age as of July 1. Please refer to the USAV Age Definitions & Chart located in the RESOURCES tab.
Q: What's the difference between an Open House and Tryouts?
A: Open Houses are a chance for players to come, play, and meet our coaches and for our coaches to get to know the players. Open Houses are typically divided by age and there are generally 2-3 Open Houses available for each age group throughout the week leading up to tryouts.
Tryouts are when coaches assess skills, attitude, court IQ, etc. and teams are formed. Information about the team and season are given out at the post-tryout meeting. BOTH the player & parent/guardian need to attend the post-tryout meeting. Tryouts occur on a single day based on age.
Q: When are club team tryouts?
A: Club volleyball tryouts are typically held in November. These are typically on a Saturday after 2-3 open gyms during week before it. Tryouts occur on a single day based on age level. Please refer to our TRYOUTS page under the PROGRAMS tab for this current season's details.
Q: What happens on tryout day?
A: On tryout day, the coaches will offer a player a spot on their team. Typically, the coach for the highest ranked team, make their offers to players first. Then the coach for the 2nd ranked team offers spots to players and this continues until all teams are filled.
Q: What is the next step if my daughter makes a team?
A: Once a spot is accepted, players will participate in jersey & clothing sizing, then BOTH the player AND parent/guardian will be asked to stay for a 20 min meeting. This meeting will include signing the season contract & other paperwork, paying the commitment fee, receiving the practice & tournament schedule, etc.
Q: When are practices?
A: Practices typically begin before Thanksgiving week. The exact dates will be given at the post-tryout meeting & posted on the website. REGION teams practice two weekdays per week, while NATIONAL & PREMIER teams practice two weekdays plus some Saturdays. These will vary depending on if the team has a weekend tournament, holidays, school events, etc.
Q: Where are practices?
A: All practices are held at the Continental School gymnasium. The school is located at 1991 E White House Canyon Rd, Green Valley, AZ 85629.
Q: When do tournaments begin?
A: Our teams are scheduled to have pre-season tournament in December, then will start the 1-Day AZ USAV Region tournaments in January. Those tournaments are from January through May. There are 3 matches played at each region tournament. The AZ Region of USA Volleyball sets the number of tournaments, the times, and locations. They will release that specific schedule weekly on Tuesday or Wednesdays.
Additionally, our teams will have multi-day, in & out of state tournaments included in their schedule. These are located in the SEASON FEES & TOURNAMENTS under the RESOURCES tab.
Q: What is the difference between Region, National, & Premier teams?
A: Region teams play in the club division and have ONE multi-day, in-state tournament in addition to the 7 AZ USAV Region tournaments & a championship tournament. Our National teams play in the Championship division and have SEVERAL multi-day tournaments (both in and out of state) in addition to the 7 AZ USAV Region tournaments & a championship tournament.
Finally, our Premier teams play in the open division and have SEVERAL multi-day tournaments (both in and out of state), 2 or more national qualifier tournaments in addition to the 5 AZ USAV Region tournaments & championship tournament.
Q: What is the cost for club volleyball?
A: Pricing varies by level of the team, with the higher-level teams paying more for their club dues since they travel more often than regional teams. Our fees are available online in the SEASON FEES & TOURNAMENTS under the RESOURCES tab and is also discussed at the open gyms.
Q: What do your club fees cover?
A: Club fees cover, but are not limited to: practice court rental, insurance coverage, coach background checks, fees, pay, and travel costs, training equipment, administrative costs, and both AZ region of USAV, state tournament, and national tournament team registration fees.
Q: What is NOT covered by the fee?
A: It does not include individual player travel costs (transportation, hotel, food, etc). Parents are expected to travel with or have an adult travel with their child or arrange travel on their own. More details are provided throughout the season.
Q: Does SVC provide assistance in the college recruiting process?
A: Yes, we are here to help! We understand that not all players may be ready yet or interested in playing at the collegiate level for various reasons. This is one of the reasons we offer RECRUITING as a la cart option here at SVC. Another reason is to keep our Season Fees the lowest we possibly can and at the same time DO NOT increase the season costs for EVERY player in the club to pay for only a few players.
However, for those players that are interested, we offer a RECRUITING option at the beginning of the season.
